Loyola-Maryland to join Patriot League
Center Valley, PA (Sports Network) - Loyola-Maryland has accepted an invitation to join the Patriot League and will become the conference's 10th full-time member next July.
Loyola currently plays in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, and last spring won the league title in men's basketball. The Greyhounds will participate in 17 sports in the Patriot League.
"Loyola University is an outstanding addition to our membership as a private institution with an excellent academic reputation and rich athletic history," said Daniel H. Weiss, chair of the Patriot League's council of presidents and president of Lafayette College. "The decision to add Loyola reflects the presidents' commitment to the stability and long-term positioning of the League."
The Patriot League currently consists of American, Army, Bucknell, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh and Navy. Boston University will also join the league for the 2013-14 academic year.
