UT Arlington to join Sun Belt Conference
Arlington, TX (Sports Network) - The University of Texas at Arlington said Thursday it has accepted an invitation to join the Sun Belt Conference next year.
UT Arlington is finishing its final season in the Southland Conference, where it has been a member since 1963, and will play next season in the Western Athletic Conference.
It will start as a member of the Sun Belt Conference on July 1, 2013.
"We are honored to join the Sun Belt Conference," school president James D. Spaniolo said in a statement, adding that the upcoming move "will help us continue to advance the interests of our university."
UT Arlington will join current Sun Belt Conference members Arkansas State, Arkansas-Little Rock, Florida Atlantic, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, Middle Tennessee, South Alabama, Troy and Western Kentucky. Georgia State and Texas State also will also join the conference in 2013.
