=== Hungary defends title in men's water polo ===

Athens, Greece (Sports Network) - Hungary completed a successful defense of its
Olympic title in water polo with an 8-7 victory over Serbia & Montenegro in the
 gold medal match Sunday.

"To win two consecutive Olympic golds in any sport is wonderful," said Hungary
head coach Denes Kemeny, whose team scored three times in the fourth quarter
 for the win.

In the process, Serbia & Montenegro was denied a chance to win its first water
polo gold since doing so in 1988, as Yugoslavia. It led 7-5 heading into the
final quarter, but couldn't hang on.

"It was a wonderful game," Hungarian Adam Steinmetz said. "It was a wonderful
 finish."

Hungary was led by Gergely Kiss' four goals. Aleksandar Sapic scored twice to
 pace Serbia & Montenegro.

Russia beat host Greece in the bronze medal match, surviving a late chance by
the Greeks to win in a thriller, 6-5. The Russians, who won silver at Sydney in
2000, were led by Revaz Chomakhidze's game-high four goals.

"I am very happy to have secured so many goals for my team," Chomakhidze said.
"I am satisfied with the bronze. We worked hard for this, but we have the
ability to have been in the final."

Georgios Afroudakis scored three goals to lead Greece, which received
 overwhelming support from its fans.

"They were fantastic throughout the tournament, and were a real boost for our
team," said Greece's Nikos Deligiannis. "Unfortunately, we didn't manage to
give them the joy of a medal."

The United States claimed seventh place in water polo with a 9-8 victory over
second-ranked Italy in a qualification match Sunday. After finishing fourth in
a bracket where the top three teams advanced to medal games, the Americans won
 their last two games.
