        === Equestrian: O'Connor claims Ireland's first jumping gold ===

 Athens, Greece (Sports Network) - Riding gelding Waterford Crystal, Ireland's
 Cian O'Connor won his country's first Olympic gold medal in jumping on Friday
 night.

 O'Connor, 24, had a clear round in the final Round B.

 "I'll drink plenty of Guinness when I go home," O'Connor exclaimed. "I think
 that the Irish people will accept it with open arms. It is very good for the
 country as well as for the sport."

 The silver was won by Brazilian Rodrigo Pessoa, the 1998 world champion, who
 won a dramatic jump-off on horse Baloubet de Rouet. Going first, Pessoa had the
 last rail down, leaving him with four faults and 49.2 seconds.

 American Chris Kappler tried to beat that time, but his horse, Royal Kaliber,
 was injured after the second jump of the combination. Afterwards, it was
 announced that Royal Kaliber suffered an acute strain of the superficial
 digital flexor tendon in its left fore limb.

 German Marco Kutscher missed the jump-off by one time penalty in the second
 round and finished fourth.
