Bloomington, IN (Sports Network) - Mark Lenzi, who captured two Olympic diving medals for the United States, including a gold in the 3-meter springboard at the 1992 Barcelona Games, has died. He was 43.
Lenzi died Monday in Greenville, North Carolina, according to a release issued by Indiana University, where he competed in college and won two NCAA titles in 1989 and '90.
The former Olympic diver had spent two weeks in a Greenville hospital after suffering fainting spells, according to the The Free Lance-Star newspaper in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
After winning gold in 1992, Lenzi returned from a brief retirement to qualify for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, where he won bronze in the 3-meter springboard.
