Beijing, China (Sports Network) - American Jun Gao beat Japan's Sayaka Hirano, four games to one to make it to the fourth round of the women's Olympic table tennis competition.
Gao will play Wu Xue of the Dominican Republic in the fourth round on Thursday. Gao has beaten Xue in two of their three previous meetings.
China had a big day with Guo Yue, Wang Nan and Zhang Yining all advancing to the fourth round.
On the men's side, Australian William Henzell was shocked by Yoon Jae Young of North Korea. Henzell was ahead three games before losing. Jean-Michel Saive of Belgium, playing in his sixth Olympics, was sent packing by Nigeria's Segun Toriola in the second round.
