Daniela Meuli of Switzerland beat out Germany's Amelie Kober for the gold medal in the women's parallel giant slalom snowboarding event and Rosey Fletcher of the United States grabbed bronze.
Meuli and Kober survived a long tournament process to face each other in the two-run final. Meuli led by 0.21 seconds after the first race and won easily when silver medalist Kober fell in the second run.
It was the third medal for Switzerland in the parallel giant slalom in two days. On Wednesday in the men's event, Swiss brothers Philipp and Simon Schoch took gold and silver, respectively.
Fletcher wasn't expected to medal in the PGS, but she did well in Thursday morning's qualifications and was seeded second in the 16-person tournament. She also had a lead against Meuli after the first run of their semifinal match, but Fletcher fell the second time down to allow her Swiss counterpart into the big final.
This was the first medal for Fletcher, who finished 26th in this same event at the 2002 Salt Lake City Games.
