Olofsson captures gold
Anna Carin Olofsson of Sweden earned the gold medal in the final women's biathlon event of the 2006 Winter Olympics, winning the 12.5-kilometer mass start title in runaway fashion.

Olofsson finished in a time of 40 minutes, 36.5 seconds and cruised to the finish line 18.8 seconds ahead of silver medal winner Kati Wilhelm of Germany.

Two more Germans finished third and fourth. Uschi Disl won the bronze medal, a distant 41.9 seconds behind the winner but more than 15 seconds in front of teammate Martina Glagow.

France's Florence Baverel-Robert was fifth, more than a minute off the winning pace.

Wilhelm led Olofsson by a slight margin after each of the first two shooting stages, but the German misfired once in the third round and Olofsson was again perfect.
