Athens, Greece (Sports Network)-
This time around there would be no losses -- not again, not with a legend on the mound. This Dream Team would give up just one run, and not until their gold medals were already in the building.
Lisa Fernandez picked up her second victory over Australia in as many days, and the United States softball team won its third gold medal in as many Olympic Games by rolling to a 5-1 victory over the Aussies on Monday.
The win completed an impressive run through these Games for the Americans, who outscored their opponents 51-1 in nine straight victories here.
"This team came in here wanting to make a statement," Fernandez said. "Coach (Mike) Candrea really tightened up the ship, especially after what happened in 2000, losing three games. We realized the rest of the world was catching up."
