Silver for U.S. sailors
John Lovell and Charlie Ogletree
John Lovell and Charlie Ogletree won a silver medal in the open tornado division.
Athens, Greece (Sports Network) - The United States team of John Lovell and Charlie Ogletree won a silver medal Saturday in sailing's open tornado division at the Summer Olympics.

The American tandem, which has sailed together for the past 11 years, had a least a silver medal heading into the day's final race, but a slim chance to catch the Austrian crew of Roman Hagara and Hans Peter Steinacher, the defending gold medalists.

However, things did not go well for the Americans, as they struggled throughout the final race, which was their worst of the Games. After the first mark, they found themselves behind the leaders by 1 minute, 27 seconds. The second and third marks were not much better, as the lead was stretched to over 3 1/2 minutes.

The Americans gained a bit after the fourth mark, but the final two stages proved no better, as the difference in the end was six minutes, pushing them into 10th place for the race, but second overall.
