New Jersey Devils (25-15-3) at Buffalo Sabres (19-18-5), 7 p.m.
(Sports Network) - The Buffalo Sabres will try to avoid the longest losing
streak in franchise history when they welcome the New Jersey Devils for
tonight's battle at HSBC Arena.
The Sabres have lost eight straight contests to match the club record for
consecutive defeats, which was originally set from January 25-February 13,
Buffalo, winners of the Presidents' Trophy last season as the NHL's best team
during the regular season, hasn't won since posting a shootout decision over
Philadelphia on December 22.
The Sabres were last in action on Thursday night when they dropped a close one
in Ottawa. Dean McAmmond scored in the sixth round of the shootout to salvage
a 3-2 victory for the Senators at Scotiabank Place.
In the final round, McAmmond fired a snap shot over Jocelyn Thibault's left
shoulder. Martin Gerber then stopped Jochen Hecht to preserve the win for the
Clarke MacArthur and Daniel Paille tallied a goal apiece for Buffalo, while
Thibault made 23 saves in the loss. The Sabres were handed their second
straight shootout defeat after dropping a 2-1 decision to New Jersey on

The Devils have won two in a row, including the close home win over Buffalo
earlier this week. New Jersey has since picked up a win in Carolina, as the
Devils downed the Hurricanes, 4-1, on Thursday.
Travis Zajac had a goal and an assist and Martin Brodeur made 20 saves to lead
Jersey to its most recent victory.
Patrik Elias, Brian Gionta and Sergei Brylin also scored for the Devils, who
have also won four of their last five tests. Jamie Langenbrunner and Zach
Parise each had two assists for New Jersey.
The Devils are 12-10-3 as the visiting team this year and after tonight will
return to Newark for a three-game homestand at the Prudential Center. They
will begin the residency Wednesday against the New York Islanders.
Jersey is 2-0 against the Sabres this season, but both wins came at the
Prudential Center. The Devils have taken four of the last five meetings in the
