Buffalo Sabres (9-10-1) at Montreal Canadiens (12-7-3), 7 p.m.
(Sports Network) - The Buffalo Sabres will try for a sweep of their home-and-
home set with the Canadiens tonight, when the two clubs battle at Montreal's
The Sabres drew first blood in this set with a 4-2 victory on Friday. Thomas
Vanek provided the go-ahead goal and Tim Connolly had a goal and an assist to
Jason Pominville donated two assists while Ryan Miller made 30 saves for
Buffalo, which went a perfect 3-0 on its recent homestand that wrapped
Buffalo now hits the road for two straight and has lost four in a row as the
visitor. The Sabres are 2-6-1 as the visiting team this season.
The Sabres will most likely play their two road games without forward Drew
Stafford, who is out indefinitely with a strained shoulder.
Christopher Higgins and Tomas Plekanec both scored for Montreal to help erase
a 2-0 deficit, but the Canadiens' offense went flat from there. Carey Price
turned away 28 shots in the loss.
Mark Streit and Saku Koivu each had assists for Montreal.
Montreal is 5-3-2 as the home team this season, but will next hit the road for
two games in Toronto and New Jersey following this test.
These clubs have met four times already this year, with Buffalo winning the
last two matchups. The Sabres have won eight of the last 14 meetings, though
they have lost four straight in Montreal. That includes two road losses to the
Canadiens this season.
