Buffalo Sabres (31-11-3) at Boston Bruins (20-18-4), 1 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Buffalo Sabres will try to avoid their first three-game losing streak of the season this afternoon, when they visit the Boston Bruins at TD Banknorth Garden in the opener of a home-and-home series.

The Sabres have dropped a pair of home games, losing to Toronto on Thursday and falling to Tampa Bay on Saturday, their last two times out. In the latest setback, Brad Richards scored the game-winning goal in the final frame to lift the Lightning to the 3-2 victory at HSBC Arena. Tampa Bay defeated Buffalo for the first time in the last seven meetings.

Jason Pominville and Ales Kotalik scored for the Sabres, who have dropped two straight and four of their last six games. Ryan Miller allowed three goals on 23 shots in the loss.

The Bruins have also struggled recently, as they have dropped three straight and six of their last seven games. Boston was handed its latest loss Saturday in Manhattan, as the Rangers skated to a 3-2 victory behind a goal and an assist from Michael Nylander.

Marc Savard scored the lone goal for Boston and Tim Thomas ended with 35 saves for the Bruins.

Buffalo is 2-0 against the Bruins this season and has taken three straight and nine of the last 10 meetings in the series.

The Bruins will make the return trip of the home-and-home to Buffalo on Wednesday night.
