NHL Preview from The Sports Network

Tuesday, February 20th (All times eastern)

Columbus Blue Jackets (23-31-5) at St. Louis Blues (25-26-9), 8 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The St. Louis Blues aim for their second four-game win streak of the season when they entertain the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight in a Central Division encounter from Scottrade Center.

St. Louis' current winning run started with a 4-2 victory over the Blue Jackets in Columbus last Wednesday. Since that triumph, the Blues have recorded impressive home decisions over Nashville and Minnesota.

David Backes was the hero for St. Louis on Sunday, as the rookie scored a pair of goals to lead the Blues to a 5-3 win over the visiting Wild.

Jamal Mayers, Jay McClement and Keith Tkachuk also lit the lamp for St. Louis, while Lee Stempniak picked up a pair of assists. Manny Legace continued his strong recent play between the pipes, as the veteran stopped 33-of-36 shots.

Over his last seven starts, Legace is 4-2-0 with a 1.75 goals-against average and a pair of shutouts.

St. Louis has won four in a row once during the course of the season, from January 16-26.

Columbus just wrapped up the longest homestand in the franchise's short history, a six-game run that ended with Sunday's 3-2 loss to Montreal. The Canadiens erupted for three second-period goals to finally end a six-game slide.

The Blue Jackets couldn't solve Montreal goaltender Jaroslav Halak, who was making his NHL debut, until Nikolai Zherdev and Gilbert Brule both scored in the final period. Halak ended with 31 saves.

Pascal Leclaire made 25 stops for Columbus, which ended the homestand 2-4-0 and has dropped six of its last eight overall.

The Blues have won the last two showdowns between these divisional foes and have claimed three of the five meetings so far in this year's season series. However, Columbus has taken both matchups held in St. Louis in 2006-07 and has emerged victorious in each of its last three overall visits to the Scottrade Center.

The road team has won every one of the five most recent games in this series.
