(Sports Network) - The Calgary Flames will aim for their fifth consecutive
victory tonight, when they visit the St. Louis Blues at Scottrade Center.
The Flames were last in action on Saturday evening against the rival Oilers
and posted a 4-2 triumph in Edmonton. Daymond Langkow and Jarome Iginla each
scored third-period goals and Miikka Kiprusoff made 32 saves to lift Calgary
to the win at Rexall Place.
David Moss and Stephane Yelle also scored while Alex Tanguay had two assists
for the Flames.
Calgary has 79 points on the year and is tied with Minnesota for the seventh
spot in the Western Conference playoff race. The Flames are also just two
points behind Vancouver for first place in the Northwest Division.
Tonight marks the middle portion of a three-game road trip for the Flames, who
are just 8-15-8 as the visitor this year.
Meanwhile, the Blues are ready to kick off a three-game homestand tonight
after recently splitting a pair of games in the New York City area. St. Louis
earned an overtime victory against the Islanders last Thursday, but were
handed a shootout setback by the Rangers on Saturday.
Marcel Hossa scored in the fourth round of the shootout to give the Blueshirts
the 3-2 decision at Madison Square Garden.
Two skaters for each team had scored in the first three rounds to force the
extra attempts. Hossa then skated in and flicked a wrist shot over the left
pad of Curtis Sanford for the advantage. Glen Metropolit had the last
opportunity for the Blues, but Stephen Valiquette made a glove save on his
wrist shot to preserve the victory.
Brad Boyes and Radek Dvorak had the regulation goals for the Blues and Sanford
finished with 32 saves.
St. Louis is 16-15-3 at home this season, but the Blues have taken their last
four tilts in the Gateway City.
