Carolina Hurricanes (12-7-3) at New York Rangers (11-9-1), 7 p.m.
(Sports Network) - The Carolina Hurricanes shoot for their fourth consecutive
win tonight when they visit the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.
Carolina has won five of its last six overall. including Saturday's 5-4
decision over Dallas. Eric Staal recorded his third-career hat trick to
spearhead the effort.
Justin Williams tallied a goal and two assists, and Ray Whitney also scored
for the Hurricanes, who had posted a 4-1 victory in Washington the previous
Goaltender Cam Ward made 21 saves in the winning effort.
Carolina's offensive attack has been coming through, accounting for 26 goals
in the last six games combined.
Staal checks in with a club-leading 13 goals this season, while Rod
Brind'Amour has an eight-game point streak intact (6g, 7a).
Carolina opens a three-game road trip tonight and will visit the Islanders on
The Rangers, meanwhile, ended a two-game skid with Sunday's 4-1 win over
visiting Tampa Bay. Jaromir Jagr scored his 600th career goal and added two
assists to lead the effort.
Martin Straka and Michael Nylander both had a goal and two assists and Brendan
Shanahan added a goal and an assist for the Rangers. Netminder Henrik
Lundqvist made 27 saves and lost a shutout in the late stages of the contest.
Shanahan extended his point streak to seven games, having posted four goals
and five assists during the run.
New York will visit Pittsburgh on Saturday.
Carolina edged New York, 2-1, last Wednesday in Raleigh and has won three
straight games in the series.
