Tampa Bay Lightning (10-9-1) at Buffalo Sabres (16-3-1), 7 p.m.
(Sports Network) - The Buffalo Sabres try to break out of their first real
slump of the season tonight when they welcome the Tampa Bay Lightning to HSBC
Buffalo has lost two of its last three games, with both defeats coming at the
hands of Ottawa. On Saturday the Sabres were handed a 4-1 loss by the host
Senators, as Peter Schaefer and Dany Heatley each tallied a goal and an assist
to lead the winning effort.
Maxim Afinogenov bagged the only goal for the Sabres, as he played his second
game after missing five with a separated shoulder. Afinogenov netted his 10th
goal of the season, which ranks fourth on the team.
Goaltender Ryan Miller returned to the lineup for Buffalo after missing the
previous six games with an abdominal strain and was touched for four goals on
Buffalo, which leads the Northeast Division by seven points over second-place
Toronto, begins a three-game homestand tonight and will host the Maple Leafs
Tampa Bay, meanwhile, has also lost two of its last three. On Sunday the
Lightning dropped a 4-1 tilt to the Rangers in New York, as Jaromir Jagr
scored his 600th career goal and added two assists to lift the Rangers.
Eric Perrin netted the Bolts' lone goal, while Johan Holmqvist allowed four
goals on 34 shots in the loss.
Tampa's Martin St. Louis saw his goal-scoring drought reach five games on
The Lightning will visit Florida on Wednesday.
Buffalo swept four meetings with Tampa Bay last season and has won five of the
last six meetings overall.
The Bolts have lost in their last three trips to HSBC Arena.
