Vancouver Canucks (5-4-1) at Dallas Stars (7-1-0), 8:30 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Dallas Stars try to keep their early momentum going tonight when they host the Vancouver Canucks at AmericanAirlines Center.

Dallas has won seven of its first eight games this season, including Saturday's 4-0 win in Phoenix. Goaltender Mike Smith made his NHL debut worthwhile, stopping all 22 shots he faced in the rout.

Mike Ribeiro, Mike Modano, Philippe Boucher and Darryl Sydor each scored for the Stars, who matched the 1996-97 club for the best start after eight games in franchise history (7-1-0).

Dallas has won two straight games after suffering its first loss of the campaign, 2-0 in San Jose last Tuesday.

Smith spelled regular starter Marty Turco, who is 6-1-0 with a 1.98 goals- against average and .930 save percentage in seven starts. Turco has stopped 186 of the 200 shots he has faced.

Dallas will host Detroit on Friday.

Vancouver, meanwhile, has won two straight and three of its last four outings. On Saturday, Lukas Krajicek's goal 2:32 into overtime lifted the Canucks to their fifth win of the season.

Brendan Morrison, Jan Bulis and Taylor Pyatt also tallied for Vancouver, while Roberto Luongo made 37 saves to pick up his fourth win of the season.

Morrison knotted the score and forced OT with only 1:40 remaining in regulation.

The Canucks play the fourth portion of a five-game road trip tonight and will visit Chicago on Wednesday.

Dallas won three of the four meetings with Vancouver last season.
