New York Rangers (10-7-1) at Carolina Hurricanes (9-7-3), 7 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Carolina Hurricanes conclude a four-game homestand tonight when they invite the New York Rangers to the RBC Center.

The Canes are 2-1 on the set so far, including Monday's 7-4 loss to Buffalo. Derek Roy had a goal and two assists to lead the Sabres' charge.

Rod Brind'Amour and Ray Whitney each had a goal and an assist and Cam Ward was shelled for six goals on 33 shots for the Hurricanes, who fell behind 3-0 in the first period.

The game was essentially decided when Buffalo scored three times in a 6:02 span of the third period.

Whitney (4g, 4a) and Brind'Amour (3g, 4a) both check in with five-game point streaks.

The Hurricanes will visit Washington on Friday.

New York, meanwhile, has won three of its last four games. On Tuesday, Jaromir Jagr scored two of New York's three goals in a 90-second span early in the third period, as the Blueshirts pulled out a 3-2 home win vs. New Jersey.

Brendan Shanahan completed the three-goal eruption for the Rangers, netting the game-winner with 16:25 remaining. It was Shanahan's 14th goal of the season.

The Rangers, with 21 points, are tied with the Devils for the top spot in the Atlantic Division.

New York's Aaron Ward and Matt Cullen will both return to Carolina for the first time since winning the Stanley Cup with the Hurricanes last spring. The two signed with the Blueshirts as free agents over the summer.

The Rangers will visit Pittsburgh on Saturday.

Carolina won three of the four meetings with New York last season.
