Wednesday, March 1st (All times eastern)

Atlanta Thrashers (32-22-4) at Buffalo Sabres (36-15-5), 7 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Atlanta Thrashers continue the quest for a playoff berth tonight when they visit the Buffalo Sabres at HSBC Arena.

Atlanta, with 58 points, sits 10th in the Eastern Conference -- four behind Montreal for the eighth and final playoff spot. The Thrashers have never advanced to the postseason since their inception in 1999.

The Thrashers won two straight games before the Olympic break, and took three of their last four. Before that, they had dropped seven consecutive matches.

Atlanta opens the post-Olympic slate with consecutive road games, as it will visit Boston on Thursday.

Buffalo, meanwhile, lost two of its last three games before the hiatus. The Sabres, with 77 points, are fourth in the Eastern Conference standings. They are two points behind the first-place Ottawa Senators in the Northeast Division race.

On the injury front, the Sabres' Jochen Hecht utilized the Olympic break to recover from a knee injury and is expected in the lineup tonight. Also, Daniel Briere, who has sat out since December 16 with a sports hernia, will be on the ice as well.

The Sabres will host Toronto on Friday.

Buffalo is 2-0 against Atlanta this season and has won four straight meetings.
