Phoenix Coyotes (17-16-2) at Dallas Stars (22-9-1), 8:30 p.m.
(Sports Network) - The Phoenix Coyotes begin a three-game road trip this
evening, as they visit the first-place Dallas Stars at American Airlines
The Stars have 45 points are tied for first with Los Angeles in the Pacific
Division. Phoenix is fourth in the division with 36 points.
The Coyotes were in action Thursday night and beat the San Jose Sharks at
Glendale Arena. Mike Comrie recorded the go-ahead goal early in the third
period and Curtis Joseph made 20 saves as Phoenix edged San Jose, 2-1.
Jamie Lundmark also scored for the Coyotes, who put an end to a four-game
losing streak and got their first win in their third try for acting head coach
Tocchet continues to lead the Coyotes in the absence of Wayne Gretzky, who
left the club over the weekend to attend to his ailing mother. Phyllis Gretzky
passed away Monday after a bout with lung cancer.
Phoenix is 7-9-1 on the road this season.
Meanwhile, the Stars have won three of four and eight of their last 10 games.
They were in action Wednesday in Columbus and posted a 5-3 win over the Blue
Jackets. Stu Barnes scored two goals and Dallas tallied three times early in
the third period to earn the win at Nationwide Arena.
Philippe Boucher netted two goals and added an assist for the Stars. Jason
Arnott picked up three assists and Johan Hedberg made 23 saves in the victory.
Mike Modano registered a goal and an assist and extended his point streak to
Dallas is 10-5-1 at home this season.
The Stars are 2-1 against Phoenix this season, but the Coyotes won the last
matchup on November 25 in Texas. Dallas has won three of the last five
encounters overall, but the Coyotes have taken two of three in "Big D".
