Washington Capitals (10-19-2) at Atlanta Thrashers (14-16-4), 7 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Atlanta Thrashers will try to tie a franchise record with their fourth consecutive victory tonight, as they welcome the struggling Washington Capitals to Philips Arena.

Atlanta's third straight victory came Saturday versus Florida. Jim Slater and Ilya Kovalchuk scored goals 17 seconds apart in the third period to lift the Thrashers over the Panthers, 2-1.

Michael Garnett made 27 saves for the Thrashers, who also won three in a row from November 9-12. Atlanta has won four in a row twice in its history the last time coming from December 6-12, 2003.

Kovalchuk and Marc Savard each have six game point scoring streaks intact. Kovalchuk has four goals and six assists during the stretch and has goals in each of the last two games.

Tonight's game completes a modest two-game homestand for the Thrashers, who are 8-7-2 in Atlanta this season.

The Capitals have dropped two straight, including a 3-2 home loss to Florida on Sunday evening. Roberto Luongo made 53 saves and the Panthers scored three straight goals to down Washington at the MCI Center.

Chris Clark and Brian Sutherby scored for the Capitals, who have lost nine of their last 11 games. Olie Kolzig allowed three goals on 34 shots faced in the loss.

The Caps are just 3-11-1 as the road team this season.

This is the fourth meeting of the season between Atlanta and the Caps. The Thrashers won the first two matchups before Washington won in a shootout on November 4.

The Caps have dropped three straight in Atlanta.
