Thursday, December 15th (All times eastern)

Atlanta Thrashers (12-16-4) at New Jersey Devils (14-12-4), 7:30 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The New Jersey Devils hope to win their second straight game tonight when they welcome the Atlanta Thrashers to Continental Airlines Arena.

On Tuesday the Devils ended a four-game skid with a 2-1 shootout victory over Edmonton at home. Viktor Kozlov netted the game-winner in the shootout to lead the winning effort.

Richard Matvichuk scored the lone regulation goal and Martin Brodeur made 29 saves and stopped both shooters he faced in the shootout for the Devils.

The Devils have played three straight games that have either ventured to overtime or a shootout.

New Jersey, which is 9-5-2 on home ice, will begin a three-game road trip Saturday in Carolina.

Atlanta, meanwhile, has won two of its last three games on the heels of five consecutive losses. Patrik Stefan broke a tie on a goal with 4:11 to play as the Thrashers held off a comeback to defeat the Detroit Red Wings, 7-6, at Philips Arena.

Stefan scored two goals, Vyacheslav Kozlov had a goal and two assists and Bobby Holik and Jean-Pierre Vigier each had a goal and an assist for the Thrashers. Goaltender Michael Garnett made 30 saves in the win.

The Thrashers netted five goals or more for the 12th time this season -- fourth in the last 10 games.

Amazingly, the Thrashers put up seven goals without receiving one from star winger Ilya Kovalchuk. Kovalchuk did post an assist and has two goals and five assists during a four-game point streak.

Marian Hossa extended his own streak to five games, having tallied four goals and two assists during the tear.

Atlanta, which is 5-9-2 on the road, will host Florida on Saturday.
