Detroit Red Wings (16-6-2) at San Jose Sharks (8-10-4), 10:30 p.m.
(Sports Network) - The San Jose Sharks attempt to right their ship tonight
when they welcome the Detroit Red Wings to HP Pavilion.
San Jose has lost eight consecutive games (0-5-3), including Thursday's 3-2
tilt at red-hot Vancouver. Markus Naslund and Anson Carter scored 55 seconds
apart in the third period to lift the Canucks.
Patrick Marleau and Marcel Goc notched goals for the Sharks, who had won five
straight before the current skid. Evgeni Nabokov allowed three goals on 20
shots as San Jose wrapped up a three-game road trip.
Marleau tallied his team-high 10th of the season, and has three goals in the
past four games.
San Jose heads back out to the road after this game, as the Sharks will open a
three-game road trip Wednesday in Dallas.
The Red Wings, meanwhile, played in Anaheim on Friday afternoon and were
handed a 3-1 loss. Andy McDonald had a goal and an assist and Teemu Selanne
netted the game-winner midway through the third period to lift the Ducks.
Henrik Zetterberg scored the lone goal for the Red Wings, who have lost five
of their last six games. Pavel Datsyuk and Jason Williams each tallied their
17th assists of the year on the goal.
Goaltender Manny Legace stopped 9-of-10 shots in the first period before
leaving after the frame with a sprained knee. Chris Osgood stopped 17-of-18
shots faced in relief.
Legace is expected to miss tonight's game.
The Red Wings, who are 7-3-1 as the visiting team this season, complete their
three-game road trip in Los Angeles this Monday.
Detroit earned a 3-2 victory over the Sharks in Motown on October 17 and has
won six of the last nine meetings. However, the Red Wings have dropped three
straight and four of their last five in San Jose.
