NHL Preview from The Sports Network

Friday, January 13th (All times eastern)

Nashville Predators (27-12-4) at Carolina Hurricanes (28-10-4), 7 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Carolina Hurricanes seek their sixth consecutive win tonight when they welcome the Nashville Predators to the RBC Center.

The first-place Hurricanes have won five straight on the heels of a three-game skid. On Tuesday, Erik Cole scored the eventual game-winning goal and added an assist, as the Canes held off Detroit, 3-2, in Raleigh.

Matt Cullen and Ray Whitney both had goals while Martin Gerber turned away 36 shots for Carolina. Eric Staal donated two assists in the win.

The Hurricanes, with 60 points, are 12 points ahead of second-place Atlanta in the Southeast Division race. They currently trail Philadelphia by two points for the best overall record in the National Hockey League.

Carolina, which is 18-4-1 at home, will host St. Louis on Sunday.

Nashville, meanwhile, hopes to rebound after having a two-game winning streak snapped in Wednesday's 4-3 shootout loss at Atlanta. Marian Hossa scored the only goal in the shootout to lift the Thrashers.

Yanic Perreault scored twice and Darcy Hordichuk also lit the lamp for the Predators. Marek Zidlicky added two helpers, while Tomas Vokoun finished with 38 saves in the match.

The Predators, with 58 points, are three behind first-place Detroit in the Central Division.

Nashville, which is 10-7-4 on the road, will begin a three-game homestand Sunday against Pittsburgh.

The Predators are 3-1-1 (1 loss, 1 tie) in the last five meetings with the Hurricanes.
