Atlanta Thrashers (41-33-7) at Florida Panthers (36-34-11), 7 p.m.

(Sports Network) - One night after having their playoff hopes ended, the Atlanta Thrashers visit the Florida Panthers in the season finale at the BankAtlantic Center.

Atlanta needed a win over Washington on Monday to keep hope alive, but dropped a 6-4 tilt at the Verizon Center. Matt Pettinger scored a pair of goals to lead the Capitals to the comeback win, as they tallied three times in the third period.

Peter Bondra, Steve McCarthy, Bobby Holik and Garnet Exelby each lit the lamp for the Thrashers, who had won their previous four games.

Mike Dunham allowed five goals on 23 shots while Michael Garnett gave up a goal on five shots before leaving with a leg injury.

Atlanta has never made the playoff since its inception in 1999.

Florida, meanwhile, has lost two of its last three games, including Saturday's 2-1 shootout tilt to visiting Washington. Pettinger failed to convert on a penalty shot in the first period but he scored the game-winner in the shootout to lift the Caps.

Gary Roberts scored Florida's only goal in regulation and Jamie McLennan stopped 48 shots for the Panthers. Olli Jokinen, who finishes a career season tonight, was the only Florida skater to score in the shootout.

Atlanta is 5-2 against Florida this season, including wins in the last three meetings.
