NHL Preview from The Sports Network

Columbus Blue Jackets (27-40-3) at Detroit Red Wings (48-15-6), 7:30 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Detroit Red Wings will try to stay hot tonight, as they welcome the Columbus Blue Jackets to Joe Louis Arena.

The Red Wings are currently tied with the Ottawa Senators for the lead in the NHL with 102 points and with one more point can officially secure a playoff berth. They also hold a five-point lead over Dallas for first place in the Western Conference.

Detroit is an amazing 14-2-1 since the start of February and is coming off Thursday's shutout win over the San Jose Sharks. Manny Legace recorded his sixth shutout of the season, as he made 28 saves in Detroit's 4-0 win at Joe Louis Arena.

Legace has been incredible this season with a 30-8-3 record and a 2.20 goals against average.

Tomas Holmstrom, Jason Williams, Steve Yzerman and Mikael Samuelsson each lit the lamp for the Red Wings, who have won seven of their last eight games. Robert Lang and Nicklas Lidstrom each picked up two assists.

Holmstrom continues his best offensive season as an NHL player. The 33-year- old Swede has registered career highs in both goals (24) and assists (25).

Columbus, meanwhile, comes in on a winning note after Jason Chimera tallied the game-winning goal late in the third period to lift the Blue Jackets to a 3-2 victory over the Calgary Flames on Friday at Nationwide Arena.

Manny Malhotra and Nikolai Zherdev scored the other goals for Columbus, which put an end to a five-game losing streak.

Marc Denis made 26 saves for the Blue Jackets.

Columbus, which will host San Jose on Wednesday, is 9-23-3 away from home this season.

Detroit has dominated the Blue Jackets this season and has won all five matchups, while outscoring Columbus 25-7 in the process. The Red Wings have won seven of the last eight meetings and is an incredible 21-4-1 over the last 26 encounters.

Columbus has also lost two straight and six of seven in Motown.
