NHL Preview from The Sports Network

Saturday, April 8th (All times eastern)

Dallas Stars (50-21-5) at Phoenix Coyotes (36-36-4), 10 p.m.

(Sports Network) - With the Pacific Division championship in hand, the Dallas Stars continue their current road trip tonight when they visit the Phoenix Coyotes at Glendale Arena.

On Thursday, Niklas Hagman scored a goal and added an assist as the Stars clinched the Pacific crown with a 5-3 win over the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim at Arrowhead Pond.

Marty Turco made 32 saves while Niko Kapanen scored twice for Dallas, which put the brakes on a three-game losing streak.

Mike Modano picked up an assist, but left the game in the second period with a left knee injury and did not return. He is doubtful for this evening's tilt.

The Stars' win was their 50th of the season and is one short of the franchise record set in 1998-99 -- the year they won the franchise's only Stanley Cup championship.

Dallas will visit San Jose on Sunday.

Phoenix, meanwhile, continues to play out its string. The team has lost two straight games on the heels of a 6-1 stretch.

On Wednesday the Coyotes dropped a 5-2 tilt in Calgary, as Stephane Yelle scored the deciding goal and added an assist to lift the Flames.

Shane Doan registered a goal and an assist and Geoff Sanderson also scored for Phoenix, which is in last place in the Pacific Division with 76 points.

The Coyotes will host San Jose on Monday.

Dallas is 4-3 against Phoenix this season.
