Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (40-24-12) at Los Angeles Kings (40-33-5), 6 p.m.
(Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Kings try to end an ill-timed slump this
evening when they welcome the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim to the Staples Center.
The Kings have dropped two straight contests in the midst of their quest for a
playoff spot. With 81 points, LA sits 10th in the West -- four behind eighth-
place San Jose.
On Thursday, the Kings were trounced, 5-0, by the visiting Sharks. Jonathan
Cheechoo scored twice and added an assist to lift San Jose.
Mathieu Garon, who posted back-to-back 1-0 shutouts of Anaheim and Dallas to
begin the month, was clearly frustrated Thursday. He's been shelled for 10
goals in his last two contests.
The Kings will visit Phoenix next Thursday.
Anaheim, meanwhile, had a three-game winning streak ended in Thursday's 5-3
loss to visiting Dallas. Niklas Hagman scored a goal and added an assist to
lift the Stars, who wrapped up the Pacific Division title.
Joffrey Lupul registered a goal and an assist for the Ducks, who saw their
three-game winning streak come to an end. Jean-Sebastien Giguere allowed four
goals on 27 shots as Anaheim.
The Mighty Ducks currently sit fifth in the Western Conference with 92 points
-- two ahead of No. 6 Colorado and four behind No. 4 Nashville.
Anaheim begins a five-game road trip today and will visit Vancouver on Monday.
The Ducks are 4-3 against the Kings this season.
