Washington Capitals (22-38-8) at Tampa Bay Lightning (36-28-5), 7:30 p.m.
(Sports Network) - The Tampa Bay Lightning continue their maneuvering for
playoff positioning tonight when they welcome the Washington Capitals to the
St. Pete Times Forum.
Tampa is currently sixth in the Eastern Conference with 77 points -- one ahead
of seventh-place New Jersey.
The Bolts are on the rebound after having a two-game winning streak halted in
Monday's 6-5 overtime loss in Florida. Olli Jokinen scored the game-winning
goal with 1:44 left in OT for the Panthers.
Martin St. Louis recorded his first multi-goal game of the season by scoring
twice, while Ruslan Fedotenko and Brad Richards each had a goal and an assist
for the Lightning, who scored four times in the third period.
John Grahame had a tough time as he conceded five goals on 25 shots before
being replaced by Gerald Coleman after the second period. Coleman turned aside
The Lightning will host the NY Rangers on Saturday.
Washington, meanwhile, has lost its last seven games. On Wednesday, Joe
Nieuwendyk and Jozef Stumpel each had a goal and an assist to lead the
Panthers to a 3-2 win over the Capitals in Sunrise.
Dainius Zubrus and Brian Willsie scored goals and Brent Johnson stopped 37
shots in the loss for the Capitals.
The Caps will visit Carolina on Saturday to begin a two-game set in Raleigh.
Washington and Tampa Bay have split six meetings this season, but the Capitals
have lost in four straight trips to Tampa.
