Atlanta Thrashers (36-31-6) at Ottawa Senators (49-17-7), 7:30 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Atlanta Thrashers continue the quest for their first- ever playoff berth tonight when they visit the East-leading Ottawa Senators at Scotiabank Place.

With 78 points, the Thrashers trail eighth-place Tampa Bay by five in the race for the final playoff slot in the conference.

On Saturday, Ilya Kovalchuk scored a pair of second-period goals to lift the Thrashers over the Carolina Hurricanes, 5-2, at Philips Arena.

Marc Savard, Jim Slater and Victor Kozlov also scored for the Thrashers, who ended a two-game slide.

Kari Lehtonen made 33 saves for Atlanta, which will play the eighth-place Lightning twice more this season.

Atlanta opens a three-game road trip tonight and will visit Florida on Wednesday. A date with Tampa follows the next evening.

Ottawa, meanwhile, checks in with a three-point lead over second-place Carolina in the Eastern Conference. On Saturday the Sens dropped a 1-0 tilt to visiting Washington, as Brent Johnson turned aside all 46 shots he faced to anchor the Capitals.

Ray Emery stopped 31 shots for the Senators, who have lost three of four games since officially clinching a playoff berth.

The Sens sit one victory away from notching their second-ever 50-win season.

Ottawa will visit Buffalo on Wednesday.

Atlanta is 2-1 against Ottawa this season, but the Sens are 7-3-1 (3 losses, 1 tie) in the last 11 meetings overall.
