New York Islanders (31-30-4) at Florida Panthers (26-30-9), 7:30 p.m.
(Sports Network) - The New York Islanders and Florida Panthers will try to get
back on the winning track tonight, as they battle each other at BankAtlantic
The Islanders had won four in a row before dropping a 4-2 decision in Atlanta
on Thursday. Marian Hossa had a goal and an assist while Kari Lehtonen made 28
saves to lead the Thrashers to the win.
Rick DiPietro stopped 35-of-38 shots for the Islanders, while Shawn Bates and
Alexei Yashin each scored in defeat.
New York has 66 points and is five behind Montreal for the eighth and final
playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Tonight marks the fourth test of a four-game road trip for the Islanders, who
are 15-16-2 as the visitor this year.
The Panthers had won three straight before running into the Philadelphia
Flyers on Wednesday. Robert Esche made 27 saves to record his first shutout of
the season as the Flyers defeated Florida, 4-0, at the BankAtlantic Center.
Roberto Luongo gave up three goals on 26 shots before being pulled in favor of
Jamie McLennan, who made seven stops for Florida.
Florida's Jozef Stumpel had a five-game point streak snapped and Olli Jokinen
had his stretch halted at four games.
The Panthers will complete a five-game homestand tonight. Florida is 18-9-4 as
the host team this season.
New York has won two of three meetings with the Panthers this season and is
9-3-3 (3 losses, 3 ties) in the last 15 encounters.
