NHL Preview from The Sports Network

Wednesday, February 8th (All times eastern)

Boston Bruins (23-23-9) at Pittsburgh Penguins (12-33-11), 7:30 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Boston Bruins try to halt a two-game skid tonight when they visit the woeful Pittsburgh Penguins at Mellon Arena.

Since winning two in a row, the Bruins have fallen to Montreal and Carolina. On Sunday, Boston dropped a 4-3 shootout contest to the visiting Hurricanes, as Doug Weight bagged the game-winner in the shootout.

Brad Stuart, Brad Boyes and David Tanabe had a goal apiece for the Bruins, who have dropped their last two games.

Tim Thomas made 40 saves in the loss for Boston.

On the injury front, Boston forward Marco Sturm is out for at least the next two games due to an "upper body injury." Sturm has tallied 14 goals and 10 assists in 28 games since being acquired from San Jose in the Joe Thornton trade.

Boston, which is 12-13-4 on the road, will host New Jersey on Thursday.

Pittsburgh, meanwhile, has dropped its last six games, including Monday's 5-2 loss in Ottawa. Peter Schaefer netted two goals and added an assist to lift the Senators.

Ryan Malone and Eric Boguniecki each had a goal and an assist for the Penguins, who have lost 16 of their last 17 games overall. Goaltender Marc- Andre Fleury allowed five goals on 46 shots in the loss.

The Pens are last in the NHL with 35 points -- one point behind the Western Conference's St. Louis Blues.

Pittsburgh will visit Carolina on Friday.

Boston is 3-0 against Pittsburgh this season and has won six straight games in the series.
