Edmonton Oilers (32-22-9) at Columbus Blue Jackets (25-36-2), 7 p.m.
(Sports Network) - Two days after making a splash before the trade deadline,
the Edmonton Oilers visit the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena.
Edmonton acquired left wing Sergei Samsonov from the Boston Bruins on Thursday
in exchange for center Marty Reasoner, a second-round pick and prospect Yan
Stastny. Samsonov was fourth on the Bruins with 37 points this season after
notching 18 goals and 19 assists in 55 contests.
The Oilers also made a move on Wednesday, picking up goaltender Dwayne Roloson
from the Minnesota Wild.
Hours after obtaining Samsonov, the Oilers dropped their second straight
match. Rookie Steve Bernier had the best night of his young career with two
goals and an assist, as host San Jose downed Edmonton, 5-2.
Roloson, who was acquired from the Wild for a first-round pick in 2006 and a
conditional draft selection, allowed five goals on 31 shots in his Oilers
Edmonton sits eighth in the Western Conference playoff race -- three ahead of
No. 9 Anaheim.
The Oilers will visit Minnesota for the start of a two-game set on Sunday.
Columbus, meanwhile, has won two of its last three games. On Thursday, Rick
Nash scored a goal and added an assist, as the Blue Jackets dropped the
Phoenix Coyotes, 5-4, at Nationwide Arena.
Jan Hrdina, Nikolai Zherdev, Michael Rupp and Jason Chimera all tallied goals
for the Blue Jackets, who won for only the second time in their last seven
games. Netminder Pascal Leclaire made 29 saves in the win.
The Jackets will visit St. Louis on Monday.
Edmonton is 2-1 against Columbus this season, and 9-1-3 (1 loss, 3 ties) in
the last 13 meetings.
