NHL Preview from The Sports Network

Phoenix Coyotes (28-29-4) at Detroit Red Wings (41-14-5), 7:30 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Detroit Red Wings try to sweep the Phoenix Coyotes tonight when the teams meet at Joe Louis Arena for the back end of a home-and- home.

On Saturday, Nicklas Lidstrom scored a goal and added three assists as the Red Wings routed the Coyotes, 7-3, in the front end of the set at Glendale Arena.

Henrik Zetterberg had two goals and an assist and Brendan Shanahan added two goals for the Red Wings, who have won two straight and eight of their last nine games. Steve Yzerman and Mark Mowers also tallied goals.

Manny Legace stopped 32 shots in the win for Detroit, which is three points behind Carolina for the overall NHL lead. The Wings are four ahead of Dallas for the Western Conference lead.

The Red Wings will host Los Angeles on Thursday.

Phoenix, meanwhile, has lost five of its last six games. Mike Ricci, Steven Reinprecht and Shane Doan tallied goals for the Coyotes in Saturday's loss

Goaltender Curtis Joseph allowed seven goals on 27 shots before being pulled after the second period. Backup Philippe Sauve came in to replace Joseph and stopped all seven shots he faced.

The Coyotes will visit Columbus on Thursday.

Detroit has won two of the first three meetings against Phoenix this season, and is 5-2-2 in the last nine matchups overall.
