NHL Preview from The Sports Network

Thursday, January 15th (All times eastern)

Carolina Hurricanes (14-18-9-2) at Tampa Bay Lightning (20-15-6-1), 7 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Tampa Bay Lightning seek their fifth consecutive win tonight when they welcome the Carolina Hurricanes to the St. Pete Times Forum.

Tampa has defeated the Canadiens, Devils, Rangers and Penguins during its run, all on the road. On Tuesday, Cory Stillman and Dave Andreychuk each notched a goal and an assist to lead the Lightning to a 3-1 win over Pittsburgh at Mellon Arena.

Brad Richards also scored for the Lightning, who are 5-2-1 in their last eight tries overall.

Tampa Bay goaltender John Grahame made 12 saves in facing only 13 shots. He had an easy third period, as the Penguins were only able to get two shots on net. Grahame has started each game of Tampa Bay's winning streak, allowing just one goal in each.

Fredrik Modin recorded an assist on the Lightning's second goal to extend his point streak to four games.

Tampa Bay, which leads Atlanta by three points in the Southeast Division race, is 2-6-2 in its last 10 at home. The Bolts will visit Florida on Saturday.

Carolina, meanwhile, is just 2-4-1 in its last seven games, including Sunday's 2-2 tie with visiting Ottawa. Erik Cole scored the tying goal late in the third period to help salvage a point.

Cole ended a 26-game personal goal-scoring drought. He hadn't tallied since November 13 against Atlanta.

Goaltender Kevin Weekes stopped 38 of the 40 shots he faced in the stalemate.

The Hurricanes are 1-3-0-1 in their last five on the road and will visit Atlanta on Friday.

Carolina and Tampa Bay skated to a scoreless tie in Raleigh on November 23, and the Lightning are 4-0-4 in the last eight meetings. The Hurricanes have lost three straight in Tampa.
