Buffalo Sabres (14-18-3-1) at Carolina Hurricanes (11-14-8-2), 7 p.m.
(Sports Network) - The Buffalo Sabres try to win three straight games for the
second time this season, as they head into Raleigh to face the Carolina
Buffalo outlasted Washington for a 3-1 victory at the MCI Center on Saturday
Miroslav Satan had a goal and two assists to pace the Sabres to the win.
Daniel Briere and Jochen Hecht netted the other goals for the Sabres, who are
unbeaten in three (2-0-1) after a season-high, seven-game losing streak.
Mika Noronen stopped 21-of-22 shots for the victory.
Buffalo's leading scorer, J.P. Dumont, missed the game after suffering a right
hip injury during Friday's game against Carolina. It is unknown when Dumont
will return to the ice.
The Sabres, 7-10-1 on the road, return home for a New Year's eve tilt against
the Washington Capitals.
The Hurricanes are also coming off a victory after defeating Montreal, 2-1, in
overtime on Saturday night.
Sean Hill scored two power-play goals, including the game winner just 39
seconds into OT, to lift the Hurricanes to the victory. Hill now has a
three-game point streak, and all three of his goals this season have come in
the last two games.
Kevin Weekes stopped 18 shots for Carolina, which snapped a two-game losing
Carolina's last power-play goal came on December 9th. The Hurricanes had gone
without a goal in 26 previous attempts with the man advantage.
On the history watch, Canes captain Ron Francis, with 1,770 career points, is
one shy of tying Hall of Famer Marcel Dionne for fourth place all-time.
Tonight's contest is the second of a seven-game homestand, which brings
Anaheim to town on Wednesday.
The Sabres have won three straight and four of the last five meetings with
Carolina, including both matchups this season.
