Los Angeles Kings (9-7-1-1) at Colorado Avalanche (12-5-1-1), 9 p.m.
(Sports Network) - The red hot Colorado Avalanche shoot for their fourth
consecutive win tonight, when they host the Los Angeles Kings at the Pepsi
Colorado continued its excellent play on Thursday with a 4-3 win over the New
York Rangers in the third of its current five-game homestand. Steve
Konowalchuk posted two goals and Cody McCormick added a third-period tally in
the winning effort.
Konowalchuk has been on a roll since joining Colorado in a trade from
Washington on October 22. The veteran winger has scored eight goals in his
last eight games. He has nine points in 14 contests since the trade.
Alex Tanguay added a goal and an assist for Colorado, which has collected a
point in each of its last nine contests (7-0-1-1). Steve Moore added a pair of
assists in the victory.
Joe Sakic has four goals and eight assists in his last 10 games.
David Aebischer notched his league-best 11th victory in goal for Colorado and
ended with 31 saves.
Prior to the contest, the Avalanche recalled forward Charlie Stephens from
Hershey of the American Hockey League and sent defenseman Brett Clark down.
Los Angeles enters off its second loss in three games after falling 3-1 to
Dallas on Friday night. Alexander Frolov scored the lone goal for the Kings,
who fell to 5-2-1-1 this month. Roman Cechmanek finished with 14 saves in
defeat after stopping 30 shots in a 3-0 victory over Nashville on Wednesday.
Los Angeles defenseman Mattias Norstrom played in his 567th game with the
Kings, tying Jim Fox for 10th on the club's all-time list.
The Kings are one point behind the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim for first place in
the Pacific Division.
The Kings are 5-2-0-1 on the road this year, while the Avs are 7-3-1-0 at the
Pepsi Center. Colorado is unbeaten (5-0-1) in its last six home games.
Colorado has won four of six and seven of the last 11 meetings in this series.
However, the Kings picked up a 5-3 win over the Avs in their final meeting of
last season. Los Angeles has lost six of seven and eight of its last 10 trips
