NHL Preview from The Sports Network

Saturday, November 1st (All times eastern)

San Jose Sharks (1-5-4-0) at Florida Panthers (4-5-2-0), 7:30 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The San Jose Sharks try and stop a seven-game winless string tonight when they continue their seven-game road trip in Sunrise against the Florida Panthers at the Office Depot Center.

On Thursday, though, San Jose became the first team this season not to lose to the Tampa Bay Lightning, skating to a 2-2 tie at the St. Pete Times Forum.

Wayne Primeau and Patrick Marleau scored for San Jose, which is 0-3-4 in its last seven and closed out the opening month of the season with a dismal 1-5-4 mark.

Evgeni Nabokov made 33 saves for the Sharks, who were outshot 10-1 during the game's first seven minutes. Nabokov is mired in a 15-game winless streak (0-8-6-1) dating back to February 27 of last season.

San Jose center Vincent Damphousse (420 goals) has not scored a goal in his past 17 games dating back to last season. He does lead the team with five assists, though.

The Sharks are 1-1 on their current trek that will also head to Atlanta, New Jersey, Boston and Washington during the venture.

Florida, meanwhile, picked up its third win in its last five games on Thursday, as Byron Richie scored the go-ahead goal in the third period to lead the Panthers to a 3-2 road win over the Ottawa Senators.

Olli Jokinen and Mike Van Ryn also scored for Florida and Steve Shields stopped 30-of-32 shots between the pipes.

Ottawa peppered Shields with 14 shots in the third, but could only get one by him in the early stages of the stanza. A penalty for too many men on the ice late in the third didn't help the Ottawa cause, either.

San Jose won the only matchup between the two teams last season and is unbeaten in the last four meetings (3-0-1).

These two teams have tied in six of the last 12 meetings.
