(Sports Network) - The Washington Capitals continue their four-game road trip this evening when they battle the Florida Panthers at BankAtlantic Center.
The Capitals began their swing Thursday in Tampa Bay and were handed a setback by the Lightning. Vincent Lecavalier scored a pair of goals and added an assist to lift the Bolts to the 5-4 win at St. Pete Times Forum.
Alexander Semin scored his 23rd and 24th goals of the season and Alexander Ovechkin donated two assists for Washington, which had a three-game winning streak halted. Olaf Kolzig allowed five goals on 25 shots.
Ovechkin has registered a point in five straight games and has notched three goals and eight assists during that span.
The Capitals are 8-8-4 as the visitor this season.
The Panthers are coming off a loss, having dropped a 6-4 decision in Carolina on Thursday. Chad LaRose, Erik Cole and Scott Walker each posted a goal and an assist to lead the Hurricanes, who struck six times in the third period to pull out the comeback win.
Olli Jokinen scored twice and Stephen Weiss had a goal and two assists for the Panthers, who have dropped four of five contests to kick off the new calendar year.
Alexander Auld stopped all 14 shots he faced through the first two periods before allowing five goals on 12 shots in the third.
The Panthers, who are 11-8-2 in South Florida this year, kick off a three-game homestand tonight.
Washington has won three straight against the Panthers, including two decisions this year. However, Florida went 7-0-1 against the Capitals during the 2005-06 season.
