NHL Preview from The Sports Network

Friday, December 15th (All times eastern)

Washington Capitals (13-10-7) at Atlanta Thrashers (18-9-5), 7:30 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Atlanta Thrashers try to end a three-game skid tonight when they welcome the Washington Capitals to Philips Arena.

The Southeast Division leaders, who hold a seven-point lead over second-place Carolina, lost a 2-1 home decision to Anaheim on Wednesday. Teemu Selanne netted both Anaheim goals and Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 34 shots to anchor the Ducks.

Niko Kapanen scored the lone tally for the Thrashers, whose slide follows a five-game winning streak that tied a franchise record.

Kari Lehtonen stopped 30-of-32 shots for Atlanta.

Atlanta has been outscored by a 14-4 margin during its current losing streak.

The Thrashers will visit the NY Islanders on Saturday.

Washington, meanwhile, has lost two of its last three games. On Monday the Caps dropped a 5-4 shootout tilt to visiting Pittsburgh, as Evgeni Malkin's goal in the third round of the shootout lifted the Penguins.

Chris Clark picked up two goals and a helper, while Alex Ovechkin and Dainius Zubrus recorded a pair of assists apiece for Washington. Olaf Kolzig stopped 31 shots in a losing cause.

The Capitals, who are eight points off the pace in the Southeast race, will host Philadelphia on Saturday.

Atlanta has won all four meetings with Washington this season and is 11-3-1 (1 tie) in the last 15 clashes overall.

The Caps have lost in their last three trips to Philips Arena.
