Florida Panthers (6-7-4) at New Jersey Devils (9-5-1), 7:30 p.m.
(Sports Network) - The New Jersey Devils will shoot for their fourth consecutive victory tonight when they welcome the Florida Panthers to Continental Airlines Arena.
The Devils' latest win came in a close game against the visiting Blackhawks on Thursday. Zach Parise and Brian Gionta both scored in the shootout and Marty Brodeur finished with 23 saves, as New Jersey downed Chicago, 2-1, at the Meadowlands.
Michael Rupp scored in regulation for New Jersey, which also won in a shootout against Carolina on Tuesday.
The Devils, who have now won five of their last six games, are completing a three-game homestand tonight. New Jersey is an impressive 6-1-1 as the host team this year.
Meanwhile, the Panthers have dropped two straight games, including Friday's overtime loss at Buffalo. Thomas Vanek scored just 19 seconds into the extra session to give the Sabres a 5-4 at HSBC Arena.
In the extra session, the Sabres' Ales Kotalik had the puck at the left circle and sent a shot on net that was slowed down by the stick of a Florida defender. Vanek, though, grabbed the puck in front of the goal and went from the backhand to his forehand before putting the puck past an outstretched Alexander Auld to win the game.
Gary Roberts had a goal and an assist and Auld stopped 21 shots for the Panthers, who have dropped five of their last six.
The Devils beat Florida, 2-0, in New Jersey on October 26 and have won seven of their last eight encounters with the Panthers. Florida has also dropped four straight at the Meadowlands.
