Buffalo Sabres (31-15-3) at Atlanta Thrashers (23-23-6), 7 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Atlanta Thrashers try to end a five-game losing streak tonight when they welcome the Buffalo Sabres to Philips Arena.

Since a five-game winning streak, the Thrashers have dropped five in a row, including back-to-back tilts to Carolina. On Saturday, Atlanta was handed a 4-1 loss by the host Hurricanes. Erik Cole's 20th goal of the season proved to be the eventual game-winner in the latest defeat.

Marc Savard had his team's lone goal and rookie goaltender Kari Lehtonen turned away 23 shots for Atlanta, which was outscored by a combined 9-2 in the home-and-home set.

Star winger Ilya Kovalchuk has not tallied a goal in four consecutive games.

The Thrashers will visit Florida on Friday to begin a home-and-home.

Buffalo, meanwhile, has won its last two games. On Thursday, Thomas Vanek had two goals to lead the Sabres past the struggling Toronto Maple Leafs, 8-4, at Air Canada Centre.

Chris Drury, Jason Pominville, Brian Campbell, Jochen Hecht and Jay McKee all had a goal and an assist for the Sabres, who have won two straight after dropping their previous two games. Goaltender Ryan Miller made 33 saves in the victory.

The Sabres will host Philadelphia on Thursday.

Buffalo has won three straight over the Thrashers, including the only matchup of the season. The Thrashers have won seven of 11 overall and six of eight encounters in Atlanta.
