(Sports Network) - The San Jose Sharks try to stay perfect with Joe Thornton tonight, as they host the Washington Capitals at HP Pavilion.
San Jose has been off since last Saturday's home win over Carolina. Thornton scored a goal and picked up three assists as the Sharks defeated the Hurricanes, 4-3.
Since the Thornton deal, the Sharks have won five in a row and he has picked up 12 points (two goals, 10 assists) in five games.
Evgeni Nabokov made 29 saves and Jonathan Cheechoo scored two goals for San Jose.
Tonight marks the finale of a four-game homestand for the Sharks, who are 7-3-2 at HP Pavilion this year.
The Capitals, meanwhile, have dropped seven of their last nine contests, but have a chance to win back-to-back road games for the first time this season.
Washington is coming off Wednesday's 3-2 victory in Los Angeles. Jamie Heward scored his second power-play goal of the game with 1:03 remaining to break a tie and lift the Capitals over the Kings.
Brian Sutherby scored short-handed and Alexander Ovechkin added two assists for the Capitals, who broke a two-game losing streak.
Olaf Kolzig made 24 saves in the victory.
San Jose has won eight straight meetings with the Capitals and is 10-1-1 (1 win, 1 loss) in the last 12 matchups. Washington is winless in its last seven trips to San Jose (6 losses, 1 tie).
The Caps haven't beaten the Sharks in San Jose since October 30, 1993.
