NHL Preview from The Sports Network

Thursday, December 8th (All times eastern)

New York Islanders (14-12-1) at Columbus Blue Jackets (7-19-0), 7 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The New York Islanders shoot for their third consecutive win tonight when they visit the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena.

On Tuesday, Mike York scored two goals and had three assists and Mark Parrish added two scores as the Islanders defeated the St. Louis Blues, 6-3, at the Savvis Center.

Jason Blake tallied a goal and an assist and Rick DiPietro made 31 saves for New York, which has won two straight and three of its last four contests. Arron Asham added a score for the Isles.

New York captain Alexei Yashin carries a five-game point streak into tonight's tilt. He has two goals and three assists during the run.

The Isles, who are 9-7-0 on the road, will open a three-game homestand Saturday against Edmonton.

Columbus, meanwhile, hopes to rebound after having a two-game win streak snapped in last Thursday's 4-1 loss to St. Louis. Keith Tkachuk had a goal and two assists and Patrick Lalime made 25 saves to lead the Blues.

Jaroslav Balastik netted the only goal for Columbus, potting his first in the NHL. Bryan Berard recorded his 11th assist on the goal and Pascal Leclaire allowed four goals on 44 shots faced for the Blue Jackets, who have lost eight of their last 10 games.

The Jackets' Sergei Fedorov continues to search for his first goal of the season. He has posted three assists in eight games since being obtained from Anaheim in a trade.

Columbus, which is 4-8-0 on home ice, will visit Atlanta on Friday.

The Blue Jackets are 5-0-1 (5 wins, 1 tie) in six all-time meetings with the Islanders.
