NHL Preview from The Sports Network

Sunday, November 6th (All times eastern)

Toronto Maple Leafs (7-5-2) at Washington Capitals (5-8-0), 5 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Washington Capitals will attempt to win back-to-back games for the first time this season when they welcome the Toronto Maple Leafs to the MCI Center for the first test of a home-and-home series.

The Capitals picked up a 3-2 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers on Friday in a game that was decided in shootouts.

Olaf Kolzig stoned Peter Bondra and Alexander Ovechkin was the only player to score in the shootout.

Bryan Muir and Jakub Klepis tallied goals and Kolzig stopped 35-of-37 shots for the Capitals, who halted a two-game skid.

Ilya Kovalchuk shot wide and Marian Hossa missed high and wide on Atlanta's first two shots in the shootout. Ovechkin then slipped the puck under Mike Dunham's right pad before Klepis failed on his attempt.

Bondra then tried to go five-hole on Kolzig, but the netminder stopped the former Capital to seal the win for Washington.

All five of Washington's wins this year have come by a 3-2 score.

The Maple Leafs are coming off a 5-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday at the Air Canada Centre.

Mats Sundin, playing for the first time since suffering a fractured orbital bone on opening night, had a goal and an assist to lead Toronto.

Jeff O'Neill also had a goal and an assist and Ed Belfour made 33 saves for the Maple Leafs, who have won two of their last three games.

This is the first meeting of the season between Washington and the Leafs. The teams will battle each other again Tuesday night in Toronto.

The Maple Leafs are unbeaten in the last eight matchups (6 wins, 2 ties) with the Caps. Washington's last win over Toronto came on March 21, 2002 at the ACC.
