(Sports Network) - The San Jose Sharks will shoot for their fifth consecutive victory when they visit the Ottawa Senators tonight at the Corel Centre.
San Jose pounded the Bruins, 6-2, in Joe Thornton's short-lived return to Boston on Tuesday. Just 5:13 into the game, Thornton was ejected after being assessed a controversial five-minute major and a 10-minute misconduct for intent to injure after checking Hal Gill from behind.
Patrick Marleau, Jonathan Cheechoo and Nils Ekman each scored a goal and added two assists for the Sharks.
Josh Langfeld added two goals for the Sharks, who are 11-4-1 since Thornton came over in the trade. Evgeni Nabokov finished the game with 21 saves for the Sharks.
Cheechoo is in the midst of a six-game point streak and has eight goals and five assists during the stretch.
Tonight marks the middle test of a three-game road trip for the Sharks, who are 7-12-2 as the visitor this year.
The Senators halted a two-game losing streak in a big way Tuesday with a 7-2 rout of the visiting Phoenix Coyotes. Captain Daniel Alfredsson recorded two goals and two assists to lead Ottawa to the easy win.
Zdeno Chara and Mike Fisher each registered a goal and an assist for Ottawa, which returned home after a 1-3 road trip.
Dany Heatley, Chris Neil and Patrick Eaves each added a goal while Bryan Smolinski posted three assists in the victory. Dominik Hasek made 21 saves for the Senators, who won their fifth consecutive home contest.
The Senators are an impressive 17-3-0 at the Corel Centre this year. This will be the final game with the Sens' arena being called Corel Centre, as it will be renamed Scotiabank Place on Friday.
Ottawa has won two straight and four of its last five meetings with the Sharks. San Jose has also dropped two in a row at the Corel Centre.
