NHL Preview from The Sports Network

Tuesday, November 1st (All times eastern)

Columbus Blue Jackets (4-8-0) at Edmonton Oilers (5-6-1), 9 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Edmonton Oilers will try to win their third straight game tonight when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets at Rexall Place.

The Oilers have put together consecutive wins on the heels of a seven-game losing streak. The most recent victory came Saturday evening with a 5-1 thrashing of the Predators in Nashville.

Ales Hemsky had a goal and added three assists and Ryan Smyth posted a goal and a helper to lead the Oilers.

Marc-Andre Bergeron netted the deciding goal for Edmonton and goaltender Jussi Markkanen made 23 saves between the pipes.

Tonight's game is the Oilers sixth this season in Edmonton, where they have posted a 2-2-1 record. Edmonton is coming off a three-game road trip and following tonight's test the Oilers will embark on another seven-game swing.

The Blue Jackets are coming off a 3-1 loss in Minnesota on Saturday night. The setback ended a two-game win streak for Columbus. The two teams split a home- and-home set as the Blue Jackets beat the Wild 2-1 Friday.

David Vyborny scored the lone tally for the Blue Jackets. However, Vyborny had to leave the game with a knee injury and is questionable for tonight's game.

Martin Prusek suffered his first loss of the season (2-1-0) between the pipes as he made 21-of-24 saves in the defeat.

The Blue Jackets, who are just 1-5 on the road this year, are playing the second test of a four-game road trip this evening.

Edmonton has just two losses in 16 all-time games against the Blue Jackets and Columbus is just 1-7 in franchise history at Rexall Place.
