Boston Bruins (29-36-16) at Atlanta Thrashers (40-32-7), 2 p.m.
(Sports Network) - The Atlanta Thrashers hope to keep their playoffs hope alive today when they welcome the Boston Bruins to Philips Arena.
Atlanta is ninth in the Eastern Conference with 87 points -- three behind No. 8 Tampa Bay and six back of No. 7 Montreal. The Lightning host Carolina tonight and the Canadiens welcome Buffalo.
The Thrashers have surged down the final stretch, posting three straight wins. On Thursday, Marian Hossa had two goals and two assists to lead Atlanta to a 5-3 win over Washington at Philips Arena.
Vyacheslav Kozlov had a goal and an assist and Ilya Kovalchuk and Peter Bondra each had a goal for the Thrashers.
Mike Dunham stopped 22 shots for Atlanta.
Atlanta, which has not qualified for the playoffs since its inception in 1999, will visit Washington on Monday before heading to Florida the next night for its regular season finale.
Boston will be watching the postseason from home, and has lost its last four games. On Thursday the Bruins dropped a 4-3 tilt to visiting Montreal, as Alex Kovalev tallied two goals and an assist to lift the Canadiens.
Patrice Bergeron scored twice and Yan Stastny also netted a goal for the Bruins, who have lost four straight and finish a disappointing regular season today. Tim Thomas allowed four goals on 26 shots faced in defeat.
The Bruins entered this season with high expectations after a busy offseason. However, things got off to a rough start in the season's first two months and the club did not recover.
Boston is 2-1 against Atlanta this season, and has won in two straight trips to Philips Arena.
