Buffalo Sabres (36-15-4) at Carolina Hurricanes (38-14-4), 5 p.m.
(Sports Network) - The Carolina Hurricanes try to end a two-game skid today when they welcome the Buffalo Sabres to the RBC Center.
The Canes have fallen to Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh, including Friday's 4-3 loss to the visiting Penguins. John LeClair and Sidney Crosby each tallied a goal and an assist to lift the Pens.
Carolina got two goals from Eric Staal, but it was not enough to extend its home winning streak which ended at a franchise-long nine games. Staal added an assist in the loss and Cory Stillman finished with a goal and an assist in just the fifth loss for Carolina at the RBC Center this season. Rookie goaltender Cam Ward finished with 22 saves.
Recently-acquired center Doug Weight made his home debut for the Hurricanes, but failed to record a point.
The Hurricanes, with 80 points, are one ahead of the Ottawa Senators for the Eastern Conference lead.
Carolina will return from the Olympic break on March 1 against Boston.
Buffalo, meanwhile, has won seven of its last eight games. On Saturday, Thomas Vanek scored twice and Ryan Miller made 29 saves to lead the Sabres over the Florida Panthers, 5-3, at HSBC Arena.
J.P. Dumont and Jason Pominville each added a goal and an assist for Buffalo. Jiri Novotny also scored, while Maxim Afinogenov and Derek Roy each added two helpers.
With a win today the Sabres would match their victory total of 37 from the 2003-04 season.
Buffalo will next play on March 3 against Toronto.
Carolina defeated Buffalo, 5-3, on November 9 at HSBC Arena and has won two of the last three meetings.
